TwitteReader (TR) uses Twitter's (TW) REST API to be able to authenticate users and to load their messages.
TR uses popular opensource tools like MySQL and PHP to track the ID of the messages you have already read (marked as read).

To use TR you just have to login with your Twitter credentials and it will automatically load your latest messages.
TR will never ask for your password as soon as you login. TR will also never store your password simply because Twitter doesn't have a secure connection API.

On the actual reader (after you login), TR loads the last 20 messages that appear on your homepage at TW (page system is a work in progress). Then it loads the ID of the TW messages you have already marked as read so they can be distinguished in the reader.

To read a message, simply click on the message (that shows a preview while closed). The message will expand and you'll see the full message plus the user's picture and, below, a toolbox where you can keep the message unread, in case you want to read it later, by toggling the "Keep unread" checkbox (just like Google Reader).
Another way to go through messages is to use the same Google Reader's shortcuts and so:
  • k/arrow-up : move up
  • j/arrow-down : move down
  • page-up/arrow-left : newer page
  • page-down/arrow-right : older page
  • r : reload messages (auto reload messages each 5 minutes)
